I have 8 six-week old chicks and 2 three-week old chicks that up until today have been residing in a large play-pen of a cardboard box that my husband built them. Today, we moved them to our back porch, which is unheated. Right now its 40 degrees out and tonight will probably be around 35. They have two heat lamps and the little pen we built is quite nice and warm. However... they are very noisy in there. One of the chicks is doing the alarm chirping over and over, the others are just being noisy. They are not huddling under the lamp. The 3 weekers are playing and having a good time, the others seem like they are chirping for their old box? Do chicks get upset when moved to a new location?
I've picked up the little one that is doing the chirping and she has quite a full crop, but other than that, everything is fine.
What do you think is the problem?

If you don't notice any other sort of problems, it sounds just like an short term unhappy chick, perhaps because of the new place. One of my Marans pullets used to always do the unhappy alarm call all the time, even though all was fine and her buddies were within seeing distance.

My friends chicks cry when they are in the dark, maybe it's just scared?

Thanks so much for the quick replies. When the chicks were inside I used to turn the light off at night and they did the alarm call for a while, so maybe she is just unhappy with the new digs
