Deb, there are two of yours in Chickaloon, geez, what're the odds of that??

My family and I had a lovely drive down to Stierling. The weather wasn't very nice on the way down, but got better coming back. I think we actually saw some sunlight! It was very nice meeting you Tori...finally.

So that makes my second BYC person I have met. I met Paula back in February. Too bad her computer is down. I miss her posts. But back to today... I took down a Delaware roo, a Rosecomb RIR roo and a White Jersey Giant pullet. I came back with a pretty little blue orp pullet, a teenage blue orp roo who lookes like he is outgrowing his pajamas, and a cute little button that we hope is a little blue orp pullet. Button took a bit to get her new situation figured out but she is a quick study and found out that when wet mash is served, the best place to stand is right in the middle of the pan. She keeps stretching her neck out when she lays under the lamp and getting it stepped on but seems to be none the worse for the wear. Of course when we got home we had to commune with the chicks and ducks for a while and then tend to the meaties in their pen.

When I got out to the pen I saw that we had been visited by a dog who tried to tear into our meat pen but failed. He tore up the tarp in three places and bent some wire but didn't get in. He even tried digging. I quickly looked over the birds and didn't see anything amiss, until later. One of the birds is missing some feathers on one wing and has bruised skin and blood on his wing. I suspect it is the neighbor's dog. Don't know if I am going to say anything or not.

Spent a long time in the yard with DH strategizing for our coop build out. I had thrown together a foundation, 4 walls and a flat roof on what will be the duck house but will be used first for a temporary chicken coop. Tomorrow DH will frame up a roof and progress the project. I think he is going to have to resquare one corner and we will have to add skids and move it about 40 feet to is "final resting place". I am so glad DH finally has some vacation time at home.

Aimee, we are building a plucker too. I just finished pulling through the fingers on the feather plate. Wow, what a job. Did you find a barrel yet? If not, I can give you some ideas. When do you have to have yours done by? Our birds are already big at 4 weeks and our deadline is rapidly approaching. Did you get the "shebang deal" from the Kimballs? We decided to go that route and are glad we did. Where are you getting a motor? I thought I had one but DH nixed that idea...something about 160,000 revolutions per minute. That could really make those babies go airborne.

DH gave up on me going to bed and is long since asleep. I guess I better get off of here and get some sleep too. Good night all.
