Just brought my Barred Rock chicks in from the day pen, as it is starting to rain here.......

Not what I ordered for the 4th of July! of course that means I don't have to hobble around the garden to water........maybe if it only rains a little it will still be a good weekend.....

Didn't think about the chickens and salmon heads... problem is I don't have tons of freezer space... especially now with a batch of chickens going in.

Anyone have good bear/fish canning recipes??

Anyways, it's gonna be a long weekend for us, so I'm for bed... talk more tomorrow!

Ladies, I dont know if any of you are interested, but Sabrieta has some BCM roosters listed on CL.....They were hatched from Valentine lines...I dont know
anything about them or the lines but she said they are nice....

lol- I broke 2 bones in my foot, not my ankle thank GOD; the first day hubby was gone..............

I stepped down wrong on uneven ground, felt the pop and kept on working, when I got in for the night and removed my boots, that is when I noticed it.....it felt like the whole foot was on fire.

Since I am home alone, and the truck isn't running yet, I called my son in Fairbanks, told him what I had done, then I wrapped, elevated and iced it. I now have it wrapped and I am wearing my ankle supported hiking boots, to hobble around and get my work done. when it aches too much it goes up with the icepack, until I can stand it again, then I get back to the chores that have to be done.

if I can't complete them then I will call my son to come and help, but otherwise, it is me and the animals until the 16th of July.

None of my chicks are laying yet not even the Feb hatchlings....so it will be a bit yet, but some are getting a little redder....so maybe not too long.

I did a head count earlier today as I was inspecting the laying flock, I have 1 Black Sex link hen, that is missing,,,,, no holes, no feathers and no hiding places......And unless it was a sneaky, picky bear it had to be a human that removed her. The run is covered, no holes in or around the fence, the gate was closed (no lock on the gate) and the human door to the coop was locked.

So I guess I best count all the chickens, chicks, etc to see if anyone else is missing in action tonight.

ETA: Goodnight all, the rest are all put up/tucked in for the night all but 1 is safe and sound.

Day 20-

there are 2 fuzzy butts in my incubator!
1 Pure Light Brahma & 1 Light Brahma x Barred Rock.
5 others have visible pips,
only 2 eggs not doing anything yet.......

I think the hatcher is alittle warmer than it is supposed to be.....
