Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

WW,

On day 18 ( I usually do it in the evening), You stop turning them (if they are in a turner, take them out and place them on their sides)....Raise your humidity to around 65%-70% (that varies from person to person) and leave em alone!

After day 18 you don't want to open the bator for anything, you'll lose valuable humidity and risk shrink wrapping everyone in their egg shells. I try to wait until the hatch is over before I take anyone out of the incubator. They are just
fine (although noisy) for 3 days without food or water. What bator are you using?

Looks like we survived Freezer Camp registration day. The kids stayed long enough to see how the plucker worked (it worked great) and then pretty much wandered off. My friends and I had several long enjoyable hours talking as we worked. The traffic cones worked great!! We had to cut off the tops a bit. I am SO thankful to have the plucker!! My hands look terrible after being in the water and slime all afternoon but tgey would have been worse if we were doing them by hand.

We lost one of the meaties to the biggest prettiest hawk I have ever seen. I was not happy to be an hour away from butchering and loose one like that, but it was a good wake up call. Glad the ducks weren't out there. I am dead-dog tired so I am calling it a day.

WW, cool! Brinsea's are really nice! You do whatever you are comfortable with doing. I don't know enough about dry incubation to try it.

By the way...Tori, when you get a chance. I just want to make sure I do everything right for these turkeys. I know Friday is lockdown, but what
humidity do you use for them? Anything else I should know?

Quote:
If you set late on the 27th, stop turning on the 14th (doesn't matter when), increase your humidity, lock the incubator and sit on your hands. By Tuesday you should have pips or babies.

Deb, just do the same thing for the turkeys as you do for the chickens. Just longer incubation time.

Carmen, I do believe they might be splashes...

Well, "Shooter" seems a wee bit better today. Toes aren't curled up and is trying to do his own
thing now. Although still very wobbly and not quite able to stand up. He is sitting on his own
without immediately kicking his feet out and laying on his side....I'll take his band-aid off for
a bit just to see how he does and to let his legs breath....

Without band-aid he's sitting on his own. Legs are underneath him as they should be and he can
stand with my hand out in front of him. Looks like that might be a good exercise for him as well.
