Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

Deb, you have us all quaking in our boots, I tell ya. (maybe if Jim was standing behind ya, lol)

I'm pretty sure if we all met for a beer, we'd be out all night and the men folk would never let us hang out together again. Of course we could all just bring them along....

Debi, sounds like you fit right in with the Alaskan crowd. Sorry about your friends husband, how sad.

Oh you should be here right about now Aimee. I have been to bed
twice now, but the neighbors dog who continues to bark and howl all
night long keeps waking me up. Of course they arent home and he's left out
in the rain with nothing more than one of those boundary collars on. This is my
6th complaint on this dog to animal control. All I ever hear is "I'll fine em tomorrow!"......
Yea, if they had been told to put their dog up (as animal control stated) or fined. Somehow
I doubt they'd be dumb enough to continue leaving him out. That could get really expensive!

I guess that's all we can expect when our animal control is also our Chief of the Fire Department.....

\\Multi tasking according to the Greek guy means everything you (he?) do (does) is mediocre... Do people not KNOW their dogs are barking? I sure know when mine is....

The sad thing is that they just leave and leave him out without food, water or shelter. They left about 1pm
yesterday and haven't been back since. It's now 7am...he's laying out there in front of the garage. My dogs
would have the house tore down if they didn't have food for that long.....but then again mine have to be fed twice
a day a controlled portion. They would eat the whole bag if you let them.....

Tori, I am so sorry you are having problems with canabalism. That is no fun.

You might have already thought of these things, but incase you haven't, I thought I would mention them...

One thing to consider might be the density of birds in your grow out pen. It seemed like you had quite a few in there. Your pen is basically open and if a bird is picked on, I don't remember if he/she would have a place to hide. You might try making some hiding places. Also, bordom might be an issue. You might try hanging cabbagge leaves or dumping a load of lawn clippings in there. Bunches of chickweed might keep them busy for awhile. Extra feed/water stations might help. You also might think about adding roosting ladders that hinge at the top for easy cleaning. My birds tend to be more harmonious if they have places to get up and away from their tormentors.

I hope things improve soon!!

Thanks Carmen... it IS a tad crowded in there.

Though I moved out some of the bigger birds, sold a lot, and did the grass clippings thing just the other day, for some reason that wasn't enough I guess. I do like the idea of roosts... perhaps I can do that today WHILE THE SUN IS SHINING!!!
