Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

Quote:
Down here there are two types: The kind you hear and the kind you feel. Our last one I heard it more than I felt it, but that 7.9 from Calexico? OMG that thing almost knocked me out of my chair and it went on for what seemed like forever. And I am 150 miles from the epicenter. From what I understand that quake relocated the city a few feet.

Ha, Brian and I were upstairs arguing about how crooked the wall was that we just built! It kind of put everything in perspective. The rest of our day has been good, got the errands done, got more rabbit and chicken food, raked up the leftover kitchen trimmings from the bird yard, and finished some trim work on the afore-mentioned wall. Now I'm cooking up a big pot of swiss chard from the garden with some rice and beans. Yum!

Where do you all get your chicken feed, and what kind do you use? I got the 16% textured feed at Budget in Palmer. It says it's ok for meat birds AND layers. That sounds weird to me. It also says it includes oyster shell and grit. Do I still need to offer it free choice on the side?

We get ours at Alaska Mill and Feed in Anchorage, if you watch their website you can catch the specials. I buy the 20% Broiler/Grower for my meaties. I ferget when I got for the rest of em...

So what did everyone do with their 2 days of sun??

I got the roo run finished and them moved into it, cleaned the coop and got nesting boxes ready for hens that look like it might be time!!! Raked and moved some dirt that's been needing spreading... and of course all the normal everyday chores.

I was on the road and never felt that quake. I cleaned out one coop today, one to do tomorrow.... Did some veggies. A lawn to mow tomorrow if it stays another day, or part of it...

Does anybody live in or around the Anchorage area? My dad said that we could buy baby chickens but his car isn't working properly so we cant go anywhere out of Anchorage so im trying to find people that live closer.
