Alberta spruce

Has anyone had success with the chickens NOT eating an Alberta spruce? We plan to use the dwarf variety to hide some skinny fence posts, and I hoping the evergreen will be unappealing to the girls. They have free range time, so it won't be the only green thing they have access to.

If they free range, I can't imagine that they'd be attracted to it.

They free range occasionally, but not daily since I don't want to lose all the plants that are finally coming up! In winter I let them out of the run every day to eat up grass.
