These are terrible pics, I’ll get better ones soon. This little one hatched out Snow White. The pic is with a English white for comparison. If the eyes were pink I’d say albino, but they look dark. Anyone know what color this one is? *edit: these are coturnix quail.

I might be dumb for asking this but what is a false albino? Albino means no melanin production or very little, right? So is false no melanin in just feathers or something?

I dont know the exact definition, but basically my understanding is no skin or feather pigment, but the eyes are normal colored

If that’s the case I don’t even want to think about trying to figure out the genes involved with that. Oof.

From the genetics there is complete albinism (international symbol "a") which has no melanin at all (skin, feathers, eyes...). The chicks are yellow with pink eyes. Adults are pure white and still have light red eyes.

And there is incomple albinism (symbol "al") which has only few melanin. Chicks are also yellow sometimes with some dark er yellow pattern and dark red eyes. Adults are most times dirty white or cream and the eyes can become dark.

As far as I know, both are sexlinked recessive.

For the the chick above I would be very interessted, how it developes till adult.
Please keep us updated 👍

Hmmm so the chicks

Awesome thanks, it’s tiny but feisty, so I’m hopeful. My biggest concern is that it’s from a large hatch about 60 chicks. It’s not the smallest, I have 4 tinies in the group, all still in the incubator. I’m trying to decide if I should set up another brooder for the tiny crew so they don’t get trampled and can grow out better.

That may be a good idea if there's that many. In the wild, there's never that much competition. There may be up to 10, but not 60.

If you want to keep them together though (it definitely can be done), just make sure they have enough space, food and water.
