Interesting... thanks for asking elsewhere. I really know nothing about the fee genes. The little guy is still with me, it’s small but not unhealthy. I have noticed a behavior I’ve never seen in a chick before. When the other chicks start clumping up, either for new feed, scared, or just because quails seem to clump, lol, rather than push through or jump over/be trampled, it puts its wings out tucks it’s head down and runs backwards until it’s out of the way. It then straightens back up and goes where it wants. At first I thought it was something neurological as I’d just see this quail running backwards when I peeked in. I realized it’s a behavior it’s choosing to do or not do. I’m not sure if I’ve just never seen this or if it’s specific to this little guy. It’s grown a bit and it’s in with less quails and I haven’t seen it really do it. I’m not sure if that’s a normal quail behavior, or possibly a symptom? Maybe jumping is difficult or it doesn’t see well? Or it’s just a smart little quail solving the issue of being tiny in a big group?
