Albon for sour crop?

Pics
Vet prescribed my 8 week old chick albon for sour crop. I’m unable to find much online of people using it for this. Any thoughts?
If your chick has some sort of bacterial infection this might help. Albon is a good antibiotic.

Did the vet look at the crop contents or poop under a scope to see if there was bacteria or yeast?

Why would an antibiotic be used to treat a yeast infection? Isn’t that extremely counterproductive, or am I missing something?
Contrary to popular belief, sour crop does not = yeast, so unless a vet looks at the contents under a scope there is no way to know. I'll try to find some references for you.

Albon IS the sulfa drug that’s often used for coccidiosis, right?
Yes, it's sulfadimethoxine and is used to treat coccidiosis, fowl cholera, infectious coryza, and any other bacteria sensitive to it.

Oh really? I assumed sour crop was always yeast and other infections were secondary. I will read up on that.
I am familiar with using sulfa antibiotics on dogs, didn’t know if it affected birds differently or not. I guess not.

@casportpony i called the vet to try to get in and I explained to him everything i had tried and her current symptoms. He told me it sounds like I’ve got a good idea of what I’m doing (I feel clueless and frustrated) so he would give me something over the phone, he said he had to look into it and he gave me a call back awhile later telling me he was prescribing Albon... I gave her the first dose tonight, she’s having more watery poops tonight and even a foul smelling orange tinged one. She seems to be pooping CONSTANTLY!

She had sour crop a week ago, I think I got rid of it and then put her back in the coop and she ate so much and it felt impacted so I used some olive oil and I think it brought it back because the next day she had the foul breath but her poop was normal? I’m contemplating just putting her back in the coop. Idk what else to do!! Maybe it’s just a slow crop..

The times my young ones have had crop problems it's been because they have coccidiosis, worms, histomoniasis, or bacterial infections. This link has some good info on crop stasis:

Orange, smelly poop sounds a lot like your chick might have coccidiosis, so I think the Albon might help.

The orange poop is new.. do you think it’s okay for me to worm her on this antibiotic? Should I still keep feeding her yogurt & eggs? Any grit? I feel like I’m starving her!

Why are you feeding yogurt? if she were mine I would be feeding her chick crumbles soaked in water and maybe some eggs as a treat, that's it.
