Autism is near to my heart.
The greatest obstacle, that most of us must overcome, is our own preconceived idea of who and what we are.
A "diagnosis" can be a good thing, or a bad thing, depending upon how we look at it. I urge you to be more than your diagnosis.
You have a good start; you are articulate and intelligent. You are reaching out to others. Don't let a diagnosis, or poor family relationships, hold you back. Try and look at your parents as people, people who have their own insecurities and needs. Practicing Compassion for others, often helps us understand and overcome our own insecurities.
