Alfalfa grass in nest box?

I was given a small bundle of pet supply store grass that is intended for rabbits, guinea pigs etc.
Could I use it in my nest box? I wonder if the girls will eat it though, I don't want any crop problems!
I do think they'd like something other than shavings for laying and nestling.

What do you think?

I have housed my chickens in a temporary indoor coop for 2 days because of bad weather, i covered it with rabbit hay the one you buy in the petshop not sure if its alfalfa or what it is. No problems, i would do that if i was you

Mine LOVE alfalfa! When it falls out of the rabbit hutches it barely has time to hit the ground before it's eaten.

Why not try out a tiny bit first to see if they want to eat it? It would make a good treat if they do. Just make sure they have grit so they can grind it up.

I sometimes use leftover pet store hay from my guinea pigs for my chicken's nest boxes. The chickens seem to prefer hay over shavings and straw. Its fine if they eat some (mine don't, but I guess some do) but if they eat to much they could become crop bound. I don't think it matters what type of hay you use. Alfalfa tends to be stalkier so thats seems like it would be best for them to make nests in.
