Alfalfa hay for bedding?

Is alfalfa hay alright to use for chick's and duck's bedding? They are a few days old. I usually use pine shavings, but have a ton of the hay for the big girls' coop and was wondering since I ran out of the pine...? Thanks!

Yes that is fine. You will have to change it more frequently since alfalfa is less absorbent than shavings.
