All about drakes

Hello,
I just got some more ducks from auction. I noticed that I now have more drakes then females and would like to know what my best option is here.. I have heard not to have to many drakes to female ratio. My ratio is 5 drake to 4 hens. I also have a drake that is more of a house duck and has trouble getting around. I do not want to keep him inside the remainder of his life since I do let him out with his friends during the day but I am now concerned for him and the hens now that I have more drakes. I also would like to know what I should or will expect with more drakes behavior wise?

I would get rid of at least 3 drakes, keep 1 outside with the females, and the indoor duck that has play dates with them sometimes

Sadly, I dealt with this dilemma. You’ll need to rehome some of the drakes or risk severely battered (or worse) females. Tapping @Jpat, who provided guidance when I went through this originally. Best of luck to you and your flock.

I agree the only solution is to rehome the majority of the drakes.

I've got 6 runner girls and only 1 drake. I've had to build "drake Jail" because he's like a machine and was starting to hurt my girls! It was ridiculous, he'd chase the girls around until he caught one and did his deed. Then he'd get up and chase down another. The poor girls would see him coming their way and would head for the hills as fast as their little legs would go.

I can't even begin to imagine 5:4 ratio!

Yeah well I'm not buying from auction agian! Auctioneer said 4 hens and 1 drake well they ended up all being drakes!
