All alone...

Quick question. We had two chickens left and one recently passed away. So now I have one Barred Rock adult. Today we bought 3 chicks. I am worried about the barred rock being alone since I know they are so social. The chicks will be inside for a while since they are only 3 days old. Any thoughts? Do you think it is a risk that my adult is by herself?

Being alone is not really a risk to her physical health as long as she is eating and drinking. But she probably is lonely. Just try to spend some extra time with her to keep her company. When the chicks are feathered you can think about putting them in an enclosure within the coop so that your hen can see the chicks but not touch them yet. It could give her a chance gradually get used to them.
