All but ONE hatchling has died

I always get only chicks a mirror and a stuffed chicken mama, and get some day old chicks from a hatchery or somewhere, asap. Are you giving your hatchlings vitamins? And how about medicated chick feed? Broody hen is another great idea, I did that once with an orphaned baby, the broody was only two weeks into her own hatch, but she adopted the baby and took care of it and as it turned out, her own eggs did not hatch.

Again. None of mine have ever been broody. They get electrolytes on the first 3 days, no vitamins until after that, and nobody around here has babies unless it's early spring. None of our "chicken friends" have babies right now.

Hatcheries always have day old chicks. idk where you are, but we don't mind a drive of an hour or so to get ours. Try vitamins first, electrolytes later.

Hey guys!
I’m so sorry to hear about your pretty babies.

I have been stranded with a lone chick more than once.
This most recent time, it was caused by a broody who stole eggs, killed all the rest, and hatched only one weak chickie.
If you want to hear the story, (complete with pictures), look for the thread:
Very lonely chick. Sort of a sob story.

I provided him a mirror, (which everyone suggested), but the main thing I regretted about it was that Chippy learned that it was ok to peck other chicks eyes with no consequences.🤣 He got over that pretty quick when I gave him friends who pecked him right back!😉

The absolute best option is to get him a few friends from TSC or somewhere.
Also, I have found that they will be less lonely with a chick-sized stuffy, rather then a mom-size stuffy.

Good luck!

The local places only sell them in early spring. None of our friends have any hatchlings. I only know 3 families and talk to them every week. None around us.
Local fb poultry groups, hatcheries. Hope you can find some buddies because it is going to be a long 2 months alone for that poor baby. If you absolutely can’t find anything, set more eggs asap so at least the wait will only be 3 weeks instead of months before it can integrate with the flock.

Sweet. Our local places don't have chicks this time of year. I put a mirror and a stuffed fuzzy chick thing in there, under the brooder plate. I go in and love on it every so often, so it's not completely lonely. It's only a few days old right now. Just will wait and see how it goes. I will worry all the way through this until it's big enough to integrate with the rest. Thanks everybody.

I got it out here, with me. Lol. I'm working right now so I can't do much. But the TV in the background seems to calm it. It's still in the brooder box, but it can see and hear me now.

A friend at church sent me a link to a lady who raises different kinds of exotic chickens and she sold us 6 Deathlayers. She was only 30 minutes away, too! The name is from a German word that basically means an egg a day for life. They can live 10 years! I'm so happy and my baby bird has a clutch again! Thanks everybody! I was stressed ALL DAY.

So happy that your baby won’t have to be a loner! Enjoy all of your new babies!
