This was my first year with meat chickens, so I did two batches of 22 Cornish X. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it for the delicious birds filling my freezer now!!

I ended up doing ALL the killing and processing by myself, as DH claims he can't stand the smell of it. I got pretty good at it - life to freezer in 20 minutes a bird! Plucking is definitly my least favorite part, but not unbearable. I'm skeptical that those mechanical pluckers do as good a job? I think I'll make one of the small ones that fits on a handheld drill for next year.

Anyway, 44 birds and I feel like a pro! And I'm doing the happy dance that i can take a break till next season!

Congrats on the accomplishment! I do mine myself too but seriously the only smell I notice is when you get a live one to put it in the cone. They do smell until plucked.
