All eggs died under broody? 2 or 3 days away from hatching?

Hi y'all

At least a week ago when our black Isa Brown went broody and her chicks were 2 or 3 days away from hatching..

I smelt a horrible smell and cracked open all of her eggs not only to find...they were all dead

They were full formed 2 r 3 days away from hatching

I cannot understand why? although she is siting on another batch of eggs im desperate to find out why they died?


Our flock is quiet large has three rosters and many aged hens and another broody mama who is caring for her week old chicks...

Were the other broody is siting is in her choice. A grassed nest with leaves etc. my only idea of why they would of died is because a few rotten eggs popped over the forming eggs before I could get the rotten eggs out... The bacteria in rotten eggs?

Any ideas or experience is appreciated

I feel for old lily hopefully she'll make it with her eggs this time

Something with your time line is off. if she just went broody a week ago she hasn't had time to incubate eggs to a fully developed state and if they had incubated enough time to be fully developed chicks then for some reason died, there wouldn't be a rotten smell for some time after that. sounds like she was sitting on eggs that had been previously set and abandon before hatch.

No no no way of , I had been counting up her days and the day was day 20 when they were all rotten when I said 'about a week ago' I meant this occurred a week ago..and that has been her nest for a long time, I go there everyday and those eggs that she was siting on had never been abandoned as I put them under her myself

Whoops! hope that makes sense!

there's no way they'd be fully developed, and rotten, there isn't enough time for both to occur.

They weren't rotten as in stinking (that was from the other rotten eggs)

They were just dead

Maybe next time I should 'phrase' better

well i re-read all of your posts, and yes the explosion of the rotten egg could have been the problem. sorry about the misunderstanding.
