all i want is two more chicks

My husband said 18....I have 40 plus some in the incubator and under a hen. Here was my reasons for getting so many...

1. When you get baby chicks you dont know how many are going to survive so you have to have a few extra.
2. Also when you buy chicks you dont know how many are going to be roosters so you have to have more.
3. I just dont know how they ended up in my cart at tractor supply, I just went for dog food
4. The color scheme was off. I too many yellow and black I had to have red and white too
5. There were just 4 left in the bin how could I walk away and leave them like that?
6. Just think the kids can make money selling eggs on the side of the road!

Good luck!

We have our first five now, too, and I already felt the call of adding to the flock myself.

When we were first picking the breeds we wanted to try, I fell absolutely in love with russian orloffs....which, of course, I couldn't find ANYWHERE. Now I've come upon hatching eggs and chicks a few times now and I'm like WAAAAANT!!! My DH doesn't help, because he wants, too, but we're abstaining for now for the sake our of current flock. We want to make sure we can handle them (which has been no problem at all) and get them through their first winter first. If all goes well, we'll get into that next spring.

Oh my, it would be so nice if he said yes by tonight. Someone is coming to get 12 of my silkies by tonight and I could hold out the ones you want.
Otherwise, he will be getting them. I am only keeping the white silkies.
Do what I do, don't tell him until later. hehehe.........

by the way, the brown spotted ones are Partridge. They won't stay spotted I don't think, but they will have pretty colors in them like dark brown and reddish.

The only way my DH would let me get more chickens was that I agreed to hatch out his absolute favorite type of chicken, polish. So, I have. Now I have 6 awesome 6 wk old polish for DH and my other 8 chickens. HAHA and when this all started a year ago this month (I'm a newbie) we built a coop for only 3 chickens. We have since added on...twice! It's now the tajmahal of chicken coops! I agree with what another pp said
Chickens are nice to have, but a good husband is pretty darn nice to have too!

Good Luck to you next Spring!
