Sorry about your yard being a mess! Shoddy workmanship just down right angers me- the original "plumber" should be

Good luck!

Terrie, I know it's a bit too late now, but did anyone suggest horizontal boring? We do it regularly here for installing new underground electrical conduits. A hole at point A and a hole at point B and in between a brand new pipe "pulled" in!

Oh I also forgot to add...they could have gone right under the building with it too....we go under concrete slabs and parking lots....even hi-ways!

Nifty, you are too naive in your warm part of the country! LOL

Iowa Roo Mom, apparently this was the norm 20 years ago. I am glad we have the opportunity to be proactive about fixing in now, in summer instead of the dead of winter.

bettisworth, yes that was discussed, but the sewer pipes running from the house to the shop and then a turn to the other end of the shop and another turn to the street are in the way to do this efficiently. The sewer pipe is in great shape, so we felt it was best to go around.

It is just a mess under that concrete.

frost line... that's how we measure four inches.

go with the 160 psi abs since you're doing all this digging. double clamp all connections and splices with the clamps opposed at 180 degrees to each other. at one foot above the line lay flagging tape so you know when you're getting close to the line if you ever dig around it in the future.
plumbing is teh sux......

We are going through similar problems with, of all things, our field-lines too.

The drains & fresh water pipes were to thin and burried to shallow when installed.

The field lines have since collapsed, and are now leaching UP through the soil instead of DOWN.

Most days you can't tell there is a problem, but let laundry day roll around, and

a small stinky spring emerges from the ground.

We were able to replace out fresh water lines last year, which after 8 years of rain-water errosion, had been laying ABOVE ground, and froze every year.

Sorry you had to go through all of that! I hate it when people do shoddy work. They know it only has to last until it gets out of their hands, then it's some one else's problem & some one else's dime.

I like to do things so well, that aside from normal wear, what I've done LASTS.

At least know, you will know that it was a job well done.
