So I have a year old rooster. He was not in a good condition when I bouught him because he was coloured and that made him weak. I had 4 other chicks along with him but they died due to some malady but my rooster lived through.we have winters here in Karachi right now so he got ill. He started falling over and breathing heavily suddenly at anytime. He also stopped crowing but other than that, he was normal. I got a medicine for him from a pet shop nearby and they told me to give it in hi water everyday and it helped alot. After plenty of days, now he started falling over again(which I feel like is an ear infection) and he didn't crow since he first got ill. His comb is always black or purple on the ends of it but when I take it under the sun, it becomes bright red. This is also something that I'm puzzled about. I just want some help!!!!!

are you able to post photo's please? how do you mean coloured ad his feather where hair died to alter his colour? how long have you had him please?
@casportpony please help also

Greetings Aimen,

If it is cold where you are, keep your rooster in a warm place, out of drafts. If he is falling over, he is very ill. Offer him moistened feed, diced fruit, a bit of cooked diced meat to strengthen him, cooked grains, and fresh greens. Observe him to see if eats, then, you will know just how sick he is. Always have fresh water for him.

His comb has blue tips, probably because he is not feeling well and a little cold.

The members of BYC, will need more details in order to determine what may be ailing your poor boy. Please take time to answer the following questions.

What are his exact symptoms?
  • Does he have any fluid or mucous coming out of his nostrils?
  • Do you hear any rattling sounds coming from him when he breathes?
  • Is he sneezing?
  • Is he eating at all?
  • Is he pooping normally? Any diarrhea? if so, what color is the diarrhea?
  • Examine his body and under the wings. Check for any lumps or swelling.
  • Examine his eyes. Do the pupils look round? Are the eyes clear? Any discharge?
  • Also, check for any insects (mites or lice) on his body.
  • Look inside his mouth, do you see any sores or growths?
  • Do you smell anything sour or foul coming from the rooster's mouth or body?
  • Check under his feet, and his toes. Do you see any scabs or injuries.
  • Look at his legs, are the scales smooth? Do his legs look swollen or crusty?
  • Lastly, please tell us what medicine you were giving him.
It may also be helpful if you photograph any unusual findings on your rooster. Then, upload the photos here, so that the members can see what the problem may be.

God Bless. :)

Hens as well as roosters need Sunlight or infrared radiation to be healthy. Any old kind of light like fluorescent light won't cut it. Mother nature is keen to help roosters father chicks in the Springtime just like she is keen to help hens lay eggs at the proper time of year for the chicks to grow up healthy. Has anything I mentioned hit a nerve?
