I have 5 20 week old Wellsummers. They started laying eggs last week. I have gotten 1-2 eggs a day. I am assumming only one or two of them have started laying. They have all been small eggs but the shells are nice and hard. Today we had 2 eggs and one was much larger than the others have been. When I cracked it open it had 3 yolks!! The shell did have a small thin spot on it and it had been cracked either while laying or when she dropped it. How often do you get 3 yolks?

3 yolks are pretty rare but not unheard of. New layers will produce some fairly strange things sometimes. I get a decent amount of double yolks but it is still a small percentage of the eggs.

I was expecting to get some thin shells since they just started laying but so far so good. I only give them laying crumbles and some Milo right now. Waiting to see if I need to add in some oyster shell. I let them out to free range every afternoon as well. They seem very happy so I think I sm doung a good job so far. They lay in the late afternoon right before I let them out.
