My chicks were hatched on March 23rd. They've all gotten a decent amount of wing feathers except for one of my silkies. She hasn't gotten any. Is this normal?

(Pics a few posts down.)

No, mostly I'm just worried she's defective. She's my kid's favorite.

She was not the smallest chick when I got them all, but she is now.

Maybe I should post a pic...

If she is not growing as much then she may not be eating as much and therefore the feathers aren't growing as fast.

PLEASE, post a picture....

If the meantime, watch and see how frequently she eats and if she is the last to get to the bowl. You might want to add another feeder so that there is more of a chance for her to eat.

i have a little red girl that is not eating as much, not as active and while all the others are growing lots of wing feathers already, she only has one little one on each side started. She is eating and drinking but not as much as the others. She was also the smallest. I am hoping that she starts to get more active and eat more.

Here are some pics... I tried to get them together, lol. Didn't work. It doesn't seem as though she isn't eating as much... but I will pay more attention.

The first is the featherless one... the second is another of my chicks, born the same day. Huge difference in feathers.

If your chick is eating, pooping, and is active then I wouldn't worry about the feathers. They WILL come, just apparently in their own good time:)

Well, I have never had silkies, but I did have a chick like that once. It was a real runt! Turned out to be the rooster of the bunch. I found some articles on line indicating that roosters develop slower than the females. I know we have messed with their growth patterns and all trying to get fast growing, early laying chickens, but there are a few that live by the old genetic code, I guess.

Anyway, hope it will be alright. And a good rooster for you!!
