ALL of my eggs are now a different color YES EVEN MY EE's!

That finally occurred to me also, three hens laying colored eggs, three hens locked up. Is it the correct three?
. If by locked up you mean have slowed down on laying.. YEA! (All of them have slowed down but these were the first to slow down. Was getting 2 green and 1 blue at least 2xs a week. Now only getting the one that I'm calling white

I’m new here, first post. I have three hens and we got them as chicks in early March 2017. We have been getting three medium to dark brown eggs per day until a week or so ago. Now we only getting one or two eggs a day and the color is light brown. I know the weather is changing and days are getting shorter but are the color of the eggs from yong hens supposed to change. They get later feed everyday and all they want from feeder and I give them cat food as a treat everyday and with the cold weather I feed them cracked corn daily now too. On weekends they get mealworms which they Love. They were getting watermelon two or three times a week when it was in season but I’m stumped by the egg shells being lighter. We live in Glen Rock, Pa.

Welcome to the forum, Hal, glad you are here. But read this thread. Your question has already been answered. The short answer is that they do get lighter and it has nothing to do with the weather.

There are color enhancing feeds . You might try one of those
The only "color enhancing" feeds that I know of have things to enhance yolk color. I've NEVER seen one that will enhance shell color. Please tell me where you've seen them?

Thank you.

Thank you that is a lot of very great information! you really know your stuff! I took a pic of one of my white eggs today, and you are correct. it isn't as WHITE As I thought when I put it on a styrofoam plate! But (and maybe it is my eyes) but I don't see any shade of the green or blue I was getting from them before, if anything maybe a peach tint? Please I'd love your advice. I wish I had taken more pics of my green eggs, and my blue ones that I was getting. But I didn't unfortunately so I only have the pic i posted previously, and this is what they look like now. I'm not sure if this egg is from one of my two "green layers" or my one blue layer...

My guess would be that's from your green layer since it looks brown and green is a combo of the brown and blue.

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

I don't know... maybe since you're doing cat feed and mealworms you will be OK with protein content. But really IMHO, you aren't doing your birds any favors with all the treats.

Cracked corn to help with the cold is just hogwash! :old Most chicken feeds are already made with mostly corn. The difference is cracked corn doesn't have any added nutrients the way a formulated ration does. So essentially what you are offering would be on par with a bag of chips or a candy bar. Also, the chicken body creates heat not the feed. The feed is simply a source of energy for the body to it's natural thing. Providing that energy in a nutrient dense fashion is nice.

Of course we all like to give treats! Just work to keep it under 10% of their total daily ration, in order to maintain good health for your birds. :)
