All Roos in my first flock of Silkies?

Oh, and I did hear about the chicken collar! Anyone have good luck using it on their own rooster? I do think I will have to get one, especially if my black Silkie, Petunia, ends up a roo. She is just the sweetest, most docile bird and it would kill me to see her go. My three year old just adores her too. Of course there would be some renaming needed as well...

Thanks again, everyone! Awesome first experience with the site. Should have joined months ago.
You're welcome. Your Black Silkie, Petunia, looks like a pullet.)

Your black has a nice narrow comb, she's a pullet. For even better judgement post your photos on ""Silkie thread,"- all silkie folks on there and they should know the breed best. Your birds are at the age where it should be [fairly easy for silkie breeders to determine sex.

Very pretty black pullet :) As for the collar, I haven't tried one myself, but I have heard around here from some that do use them that they work well if properly tightened. Just make sure to buy the right size. They don't completely stop crowing, but they drastically reduce the sound and pretty much render the rooster as quiet as a hen. My Pet Chicken has a really good video showing this.

I had bought an adorable little frizzle hen for my small flock of silkies, who turned into a loud, aggressive but beautiful and still adorable rooster. Living in the center of a chicken intolerant city I purchased a collar. It worked for a few days only. I kept him (Mario) anyway and so far no one has denounced him to the chicken police. In the meantime he has sired 8 beautiful babies. They are about a month old and I spend a lot of time watching and enjoying their antics.

Welcome to BYC. Pullets/hens will engage in hackle flaring and mock fighting/playing. The black is a pullet - off to your other thread to see if anyone has helped with gender identification.
