Two of my young silkies from this summer went missing this evening. They wandered off and my grandpa shut my birds in without knowing they were missing. They were smart and went in and were sleeping with my pygmy and fainter goats. I looked everywhere and was close to tears and when I found them I cried.... tears of joy! My silkies names are Estes (buff),Echo (Partridge), Kennedy (Splash) Kora(splash or white?-few spots) and Piper (black).... BOTH of the pictures below are of my Buff Silkie Bantam Hen "Estes". I raised her, she was only 36 hours old when I got her. Oh how she has matured!
great pics it nice to see the comparison was wondering what the red/buff chicks look like. Thought one in my recent hatch would mature to it but looking at yours not a chance lol oh well have to wait til its bigger to find out what colour it going to be.

Do you know why?
Not really, as soon as she got used to my new baby chicks she stopped following people and would stay farther away from us. I had originally brought her from my mom's friend who got 7 Silkie chicks, they called us and asked if we wanted one, I said yes because recently I had been looking to buy a Silkie. I brought home Mellow after a visit, my old flock had been torn apart so she didn't have any companions but we had 4 baby chicks that would arrive in a few weeks, so I figured that she could wait a bit until they arrived. When the chicks finally arrived I introduced them to Mellow (who was a few months older than them), she did not like them at all and would bristle up her neck feathers every time they neared her. But as the chicks got older they started getting along better until Mellow decided that she did not need her human friends anymore and moved back to the chicken world... It could be the rebellious stage, I also think that her separation from chickens for that time had an affect on her.

But anyways today Mellow finally squatted for me!!! She probably won't lay eggs for awhile but at least I know that she has reached maturity.
