Thanks! We are so glad she’s doing good too!I think I’ve heard more dog attack stories than attacks from wild animals! I’m so glad your chicken is doing better.

For the first time in months, I just got my first egg from my Welsummer today. Here is a photo of what I get from my Welsummer. If she lays sparingly, I really hope they’re the dark reddish brown eggsthat would be worth the wait!
Fooled me again.I think she knows I wrote a post about herMy Welsummer is in the nesting box by herself right now scratching around (usually she tags along with my Easter Egger). I went out to the run with treats and she didn’t come out to get any so fingers crossed today is the day!
Well, soon. Hope you post a picture of the long awaited egg when it does arrive.Fooled me again.
So sorry. That's the downside of keeping small animals. They can pass quickly.Unfortunately I will never know what my Welsummer’s eggs look like. She passed away today.![]()
daughter is heartbroken. She loved that chicken![]()
The next time a bird dies I highly recommend sending it directly your to your state lab for a necropsy do you will know the reason and hopefully be able to prevent it from happening again. Fatty liver disease kills quickly.Unfortunately I will never know what my Welsummer’s eggs look like. She passed away today.I’m still not sure exactly what happened. She’s been acting normal but for the last two days a couple other hens have been picking at her tail/back feathers. No blood...just exposed some of the downy feathers underneath. I chalked it up to boredom and put several enrichment items for them to enjoy. I watched and they seemed distracted and left her alone.
Today while I was gone the camera caught her flapping her wings violently then letting out a squawk before collapsing. I rushed home but she was dead. No one else was near her when she did this and there were no signs of injury or illness. She was on her back and her legs were stretched out.
she’s always been a little different...maybe that’s why she was a favorite. possiblly she had an internal deformity? Idk but my daughter is heartbroken. She loved that chicken![]()
Our state lab is 6 hrs away. How would I get it there? Mail? I’ve read to keep it in the fridge first but how do you do that and send it in?The next time a bird dies I highly recommend sending it directly your to your state lab for a necropsy do you will know the reason and hopefully be able to prevent it from happening again.
