Just seeing this thread now and that necropsy result sounds like the underlying issue was Fatty Liver Haemorrhagic Syndrome......
"This hen has a good amount of internal fat stores"
"The liver is severely enlarged with rounded borders, is pale tan with a friable texture"
An enlarged, tan coloured, friable liver in a bird that had been sick for a while but still had internal fat stores and died from fluid in the heart and lungs would suggest that to me. Fatty liver Haemorraghic Syndrome has a breed element..... larger birds are more prone to it but is also associated with a dietary imbalance...... usually too much carbohydrates in the diet from corn, scratch, bread etc or even an organic whole grain diet, where the bird can selectively eat specific components of the feed because it is not homogenised.
