Trying to get everything in order so we can leave on vacation early Monday morning. We're long-time night people so I get most of the preparations done late at night; at least as much as possible.

Stepdaughter #1 is going to be staying here with her DH and son to take care of our animals. I asked her to come up on this past Thursday to spend the day so she could learn my routine; especially where the chickens are concerned. Still trying to decide exactly how I want her to deal with my broody and her 12 day old chicks.

#1 came alright...and she brought her DH, her son and her sister (SD#2) with her, all of them super sick with the flu. They've been camped out in our living room ever since. But that's a whole 'nother story.

I'm on the verge of insanity, dealing with all our preps. and them too. But it gets even better.....

Jethro, my totally clueless silkie, is BROODY AGAIN!!

I've been crying all morning. Cried all through my hair appt. Crying now.

I'm ready to cancel the whole trip.

I don't know what to tell you, but I am very sorry that this has turned into a nightmare.

For you.

I know we hate to leave our animals in someone else's care. Try and have a great time on vacation, I am sure you need one. I know I do.

The FLU - what were they thinking? Ooops, sorry forgot who I was wondering about

You and DH can always bring the whole zoo to my house on your way down south - I KNOW what a quick side trip that would be

. I would happily watch the flocks, broodies and the boys, sigh and the kitties. (but kitties only for you Gritsar, only for you

Oh, Kat, that stinks. Your first real vacation and chance to see your dad in a long time and thoughtless people descend on you...

Sorry you are having to deal with their nonsense.
You can be at my house in a couple of hours, bring the boys, broody and chicks and I'll tend them for you. The SDs...nah, leave them there, I ain't tendin' them.

Try to stay excited about your trip-you'll have a fantastic time with your dad.

Surprise! Surprise!
Right after I posted, when I felt sure I was going to explode, I went outside and retrieved SD#1. As calmly as I could, I explained to her that I was about to lose it and why. We had a nice, long discussion. At the same time, DH took his younger daughter aside and had a talk with her.

They are leaving now. They'll be back Sunday night, so that we can get an early start out Monday morning. They're taking the useless SD#2 with them. It's been made clear to them that she is not to come back with them Sunday night.

They're leaving their dog, rather than tote him back and forth, back and forth. He will be staying on our screened porch only! He's not housebroken.

So, all my immediate troubles have been resolved, except for that dang chihuahua of theirs and my dang silkie. Hmmmm, Jax and Kane are hungry.

Oh my goodness.

I predict SD will do fine, you won't get the flu, you'll have a great trip, and the silkie will get mad at you for leaving and leave her nest! How's that?

Take a few more deep breaths, you'll get through it.

That dang silkie better be happy that I am going to give her some eggs, out of the kindness of my heart. Impy better hope like heck that those BRAHMA EGGS I am giving her hatch chicks with feathers on their legs AND NECKS.
