All Time Favorite Book

Thanks everyone. This is a great start. Some of them I have read but many of them I will be looking up at Barnes and Nobles.

Okiemommy .... The Little House series was my favorite as a kid and I read it to my students when I taught 4th grade as well. I didn't do the fun things you did but if I ever have to teach that grade again I will.

great ideas

Ever read "Animal, Vegetable, Miracle"? It's good and very informative. I also read anything from Beverly Lewis to James Patterson. (I don't like romance novels either)

Welll, they aren't light reading, but they are the kind of reading that every American should read, and when I am not buried under in my textbooks, I read things along the lines of:
1. The Big Rock Candy Mountain by Wallace Stegner
2. Sometimes A Great Notion by Ken Kesey
3. The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud (A young adult series that I highly reccommend, but can't use for teaching due to subject matter)
4. QED by Richard Fenyman
5. I also read Stephen King ,Patricia Cornwell and lots and lots of kids books so that I stay up on what my students are hopefully reading and talking about,(dare to dream)as well as my own kids.

V.C. Andrews "Flowers In The Attic". Since reading that, I've bought and read every single V.C. Andrews book out there! I've seen the movie too, but like all books made into a movie, it was not as good.

Ditto on To Kill a Mockingbird!

The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck
A Day No Pigs Would Die by Robert Newton Peck
Lord of the Rings set makes for repeat reading...
All of James Herriotts collected works.
Harry Potter books are great!
Farmer Boy by Laura I. Wilder....those folks worked hard!!!
Prairie by Anna Lee Waldo? big, enthralling saga of a book that you can't put down!
Our Winter of Discontent by Steinbeck
Anything by Catherine Cookson if you like female heroines who are strong and down to earth.
Anything by Mary Higgins Clarke if you are into mysteries, as well as Dick Francis...starts slow but you can't put them down.
