all who are hatching quail

@ what age should Bobs start laying....ANd I got A& M too those should be about 6 wks plus..Correct?
Bobs mature at 6 months old and can start laying at 6 months old. However generally they don't lay until the first spring following their hatch.

I have laying 10 bobwhite 5 hens and 5 roos, 8 Texas A& M 7 hens and 1 roo. In my incubator I have 68 Pharoah/Coturnix, 47 Texas A&M, and 5 Bobwhite eggs! I am interested in finding Jumbo Quail eggs to incubate, if any one has any available. Please feel free to contact me.

Oh hell forget that.. I am not keeping these guys around that long.. They too jumpy for me ..I got those A&M they are much more mellow...Looks like quail for Memorial Day... TEHEHHHE

I now have 400 week old bobwhite chicks! Anybody have suggestions on how soon I should supplement their diet with grit, Ca+, treats? I am feeding starter crumbles right now.

CCGamebirds, only the females will need calcium at laying time. The males cannot handle any layer feed or added calcium. So you will need to offer crushed oystershell on the side for the layers. They won't be laying till next spring.

If all you are feeding is starter crumbles, you do not need any grit. When they are six weeks old and you start offering seeds, veggies and other greens, you will then need to add grit.

They are never too young for dust bathing however and that you can add any time.

I have 90 quail that are 7 weeks old. Half A&M in one cage and the rest are mixed brown coturnix. The browns are laying a lot more at this point than the A&M cage. Do the A&M take longer to lay well?? I am wanting to get enough fertile eggs to hatch out another group of 100. Wanting to start culling to freezer camp, then pick out a dozen breeders from each cage to keep for eggs this summer. We can't wait to have all the pickled eggs we want :)!!!

I have courtix quail and was wondering if they will breed in the wild?... I want to let some loose on our pasture. Will they stay in the area? And will they reproduce on there own?

From what I read they are difficult to have in the wild. The biggest thing is having brush etc and available food. It is difficult because there are so many predators.

I have an ad up over on classifeds but thought I would post here I have 30 primarily A&M (maybe few coturnix eggs) eggs that someone was supposed to get and wants next week. I don't have room for these. If anyone wants them I'll do 15 plus 7 in shipping shipped out tomorrow!!!

Coturnix quail will only die within a few days if released into the wild. They are very much domesticated birds and will not sit on their own eggs. They will also not stay close by and are not predator savvy. You would only be feeding your local predators.
If any do happen to manage to survive and range you may face a legal battle as well, as releasing domestic quail and thus threatening wild quail populations is usually illegal in states with native quail.
All in all, not recommended.

Cheers,
Jessie
