I have 18 coturnix and 4 button that just went into lockdown. The coturnix eggs I could candle looked like they were all developing but some are really dark brown and I couldn't see anything but the air cell. The button didn't look like they were at all, the light shone through them much more easily. Is anyone experienced with button quail? I've kept them in there because I don't know what I'm looking at but I'm not holding out hope on them even being fertile.
My incubator doesn't stay steady and temps have run a little on the low side (99-102 but more on the 99-100 than 102) so I'm kind of expecting them to be on the late side of hatching.
Question on humidity - I've been trying to keep it in the 40-55% range and I've read everything from 50-90% for lockdown and a few sites said to raise humidity when they start to pip (I assume that means if you can without opening). Any opinions? I don't think I can google any more - it's like looking for medical information and you end up knowing for sure you're going to die of some dread disease when you just have the sniffles. I'm convinced my chicks are either going to stick or drown if I'm too far off one way or another.
I have a straw running through a hole to a sponge so I can adjust the humidity upwards if I need to without opening the incubator.
