all who are hatching quail

I've been looking at photos of the Means quail. Does anyone out there have any? If you do, I'll trade tying some fishing flies for your hat out of your own birds for a bag of the feathers.

DO NOT PUT QUAIL CHICKS ON SAND! It causes ulcerative enteritis if they ingest sand/dirt/rocks at too young an age. Quail aren't ready for sand in their digestive system until 6 weeks or so.

yikes. my A&Ms are 4 weeks old and I've been giving them sand baths for a couple of weeks now...

Heya, teredragon! I figured I should post here, too. Maybe learn up a bit more on quail. I have 13 chinese painted eggs in my incubator right now. They're on day 4.

4 weeks is probably old enough but I always err on the side of caution.

dc - they all seem fine.... if any die because of sand it'll save me a job of necking them!! (Sorry that might have been a bad taste joke)

I thought I should cross-post my quail eggs' pictures here! This is my first time hatching quail, and I'm really proud of the variety of colors I got. The purple one is my very favorite.

Hard to tell in the picture, but this one is blue.

I totally love the purple one... Kinda want to hatch out some chinese quail of my own now... pets only though, can't eat birds so small...
