guess I am lucky!!! I pay $1 a dozen ..I get them from an Amish man...they are mixed sizes etc..but lots of people here have eggs for sale..I am just in between..none and plenty..haha

I am just starting out and only have chicks, but I pay $1.50 a dozen during the winter months and during the summer I pay $1.00 a dozen with a buy 2 get 1 free! My supplier can't seem to get rid of all his eggs. My father-in-law pays $1.00 a dozen for his, went up last summer from $0.60.

If anyone is considering selling eggs as a business, not just to help with feed costs but to actually maybe make money, be sure to figure out your costs, including shelter, water, electricity, transportation, feeders and waterers, feed, fencing, predator control devices, vaccinations, chick costs, egg cartons, bedding, leg bands, treats, veterinary care, etc. and the all important your time factor. Then figure out how much each hen costs you in total over her lifetime vs. what she makes in egg sales. That also helps you price eggs.

We're not making money yet, that's for sure.
