Allergy to chickens....

Oh no. My 3 year old has a chicken problem. I always keep my chicks in the house untill they feather. Well my son is sick again so i took him to the DR.( his cough was not geting better after a week). Well the Doc says take he has a allergy that causes his asthma to act up. So I tell her about the chicks and she says it is probly them ( because 3 months ago we went through this too. So no chicks in the house now or ever.....

My husband has asthma and a dust allergy. When i raised my first chicks, it made him very sick

So that is why i have silkies now

As hard as it was on a 200# guy.......I imigine its even tougher for a 3 yr old. So all babies at my house are now raised by silkies in the coop.

My husband has lung problems so when I hatch chicks in the house I use air cleaners in that room and leave them on 24/7

I can't raise Chicks in the house either, they make me very sick. When I go clean thier coop I have to wear dust masks. My chicks go straight to the coop when they arrive and I never have them in thr house.

Chicks create a lot of "dust". It's really not very healthy to have them in your house. I do keep mine in brooders in the house right after hatch, but weather depending I get them out to the barn ASAP (I'm always afraid to put brand-new chicks outside if it's really cold; I'm always afraid of a bulb burning out or a power outage, etc.). But if it's warm when they hatch, they go right out! I let a broody Marans hatch some this spring, those guys never came inside. That was great!

I love my chickens, but I love them even more outside...
