Question... how soon can I move my chicks to an outside coop? They are two weeks old. I just had allergy testing done and found out I'm allergic to feathers, dust, and mites and all trees (the pine shavings are probably the biggest problem for me). Right now, they are in our house in a brooder under a heat lamp and I'm having to wear a respirator.

We plan to keep them - I'll just wear a respirator when I'm around them outside. I just need to figure out how quickly I can safely move them outside.

Thanks for your help!

Can you add a light out side ? Do you have a garage or something you can put them in with a light . chickens are also bad for asthma .. you have to take care of you First !

We don't have power to outside yet. We have a shed we've talked about getting power to. If my husband can work that out, we'd be able to move the brooder to the shed. The shed is not insulated and doesn't have wallboard inside it, so if it is cold outside, the shed stays pretty cold, too. I'm not sure if a light would keep the shed 80 degrees or not. If I can get the coop built this week, and insulate it, is it safe to hang a basic heat lamp inside the coop? Or do you have to have a special light for inside the coop for safety? We plan to do the Purina coop - but, instead of 4' x 4' it will be 3' x4'. It will be the same height as the Purina design (48" in the front, 42" in the back).

Thanks!
