This is Stormy, a lil chick that I recently adopted (is 2 days shy of 3 weeks old) but in the past few days she has concerned me as her comb looks to be a little too big for my liking. I don't know her breed and have no siblings to compare her against.
At a farm to table based fundraiser, there were tons of food and drink samples along with a few other vendors, one of which, a chicken hatching program where they go to schools and seniors homes. Anyways, they had baby chicks there and they were absolutely adorable! I asked what happens when they are no longer cute and cuddly and he said they find them homes. By this point, I was absolutely in love with this little black chick and I half jokingly said, ‘well when you are ready to find this one a home let me know and she can join my girls at home”. The guy then said, I am walking over to this table now and if she is gone when I get back, I won’t mind. So I took her
So hence why I don't know much about her (still praying a her)!
First of all, welcome to the BYC flock! We are glad you decided to join us!
Sexing chicks at this age can be difficult. The fact that the comb is still skin tone is still a good sign so, not knowing the breed, there is still hope that it could be a pullet. If you don't get a decisive answer, be sure to post new pics in a couple weeks and try again. Either way, it sure is cute!
