Just wondering if I can feed my 6-7 week old leghorns frozen raspberries? It's a pretty hot day out. Do I need to thaw them? I've already crushed them up a bit while frozen. Also are they at the age I can toss a head of lettuce in there to peck and play with?

You can start experimenting as you please. Just remember that once you start providing anything other than chick starter food, you must ALSO provide grit or access to dirt/pebbles. You can buy chick grit which is smaller and more appropriate for chicks. Enjoy the new chicken TV lineup of shows with each new food adventure! :D

Thanks so much!! they have had grit as I have been feeding them some seeds and mealworms and they have been eating grass now too that that are in the run. Can't wait to see what they do with the raspberries

If you give them raspberries don't be alarmed later if it looks like they've been attacking each other. :) I always forget when feeding berries that not only do the chickens stain themselves with it, but it can change their poop color too.
hahaha good to keep in mind for sure!! They didn't even eat the raspberries. Not sure if it's because it formed a weird mash when it thawed or what but it's now on the ground of the run. That's ok, we are moving the coop again tomorrow so I'm sure the dogs will eat it. They love raspberries.
