Almost my Entire flock got wiped Out last night by a trash panda, my husband accidentally left the air flap open on the top of the coop and it climbed up the wall to the top and got in, killed everything even all but one of my Guinneas, Ate an entire guinnea just left the bones and feathers! that guinnea and my 2 ducks, and 4 chickens is all that’s left 🥺😢
I know my barred rock and golden comet are hens, but looking to see if my jersey giant and Easter egger are hens or Roos before I order more chicks. Any help is greatly appreciate. I lost my EE roo that I knew was a roo, he was so pretty, I’m just so sad about it And My husband is in the dog house I’m so mad at him 😭

Get hubs to atone for it by building a secure run!!

Jersey Giant looks like a pullet. Mottled gray chicken (Easter Egger?) could be a cockerel, but still a little early to tell.

The "chicken wire" only holds chickens in. It does not keep raccoons or even dogs out. I think you will at least need some hardware cloth other than the cattle panel.

Assuming a trash panda is a raccoon? How may chickens did you lose? You make it sound like a lot- if so it wasn't just a raccoon- it would have had to been a large group of them or something bigger like a coyote or fox.

Like Ruth said though chicken wire even if the coop is closed will not hold them off long. I'd suggest the galvanized wire that is at least 18GA but better 16GA. They can't tear or chew their way through that and it isn't that much more than chicken wire when you buy it in big rolls.

Sorry for the losses. I would say they both appear to be pullets at this point.

Thank you, and that’s just their run, To keep them in during the day, there’s hog panel and chicken wire but it’s just to keep them in, at night they go Locked up in the coop, which is a 25X30 fully enclosed house, it’s got a “window” that opens and latches/locks closed at the top to help with air flow During the day and that’s what my husband left open. He said he just wasn’t thinking. so now he’s given me free range to order whatever I want, which I’m happy about but still mad at him. I’m just glad it didn’t get our ducks.
im wanting to hatch jerseys next year so I’m going to need to order a jersey roo I suppose, thank you again.

I'm thinking hardware cloth, firmly secured all around that window opening, would be a good idea. Then you can leave it open for air at any time, and nothing will get in through it. Just put the hardware cloth on such that you can still open and close the flap.

Thanks you And yeah it was about a dozen, completely ate one and the Just killed the rest, except the 4 chickens that lived, and The ducks and 1 guinnea That made it. it crawled up on the roof and through the open window, it’s not one Of those cheap little coops People buy at the feed store and what not, this is an actual house, I don’t have a picture but the only way in is an actual regular full size door that’s locked, well and the window up top that latches/locks. It’s a 25X30 New building, The outside (these pics) is just the run I put them in during the day, husband found coon tracks leading to the coop... setting Traps tonight and I’ve got my trail cam set up along with my 22, in case it is a coyote and doesn’t take the bait. But husband said he found the coon tracks so I’m led to believe it was one (or more) coons.

This is probably what we will do, husband said he just wasn’t thinking When he didn’t built the window with a covering
