Are you saying that a credit union is the one issuing the money order and that they take a personal check or something as payment for the money order? I worked in credit unions for many years and I would never take a personal check as payment for a money order. I either took the money directly from the account of the person, or they paid cash. And if I were to accept some other form of payment for some odd reason (which I never did and never would have), the person held responsible would be the one who bought the money order, not the person who ultimately tries to cash it.

I think she means that a credit union will credit your account with the funds faster than a bank. Whenever I take a check or MO to my credit union, they never hold it. I asked why and I was told that if you have the funds in another account or you are a long time customer in good standing, they are more likely to go ahead and fund the check or MO. Then if something goes wrong they can debit another account.

Yes! Thank you Terrie!

Ok, but I don't get why that would mean scammers would mention credit unions. The credit union would be on the end of the victim in that instance, not the scammer.

The bad guy is asking them to go to a credit union.
They want them to cash it at a credit union so the money is gone before the fakes are discovered so the victim is stuck an they have money on the way.
