My one male Merlin has decided he no longer will tolerate the sight of Henry. When ever Henry comes close to his fence , Merlin will jump it and chase Henry off. It started when Henry started bossing my two young emus around... Which are Merlin's kids. Well I have been keeping Henry in one area until I get the other five acreage clear. On area in the side pasture is full of cut trees my hubby has to finish cutting. Well Henry slipped out the open gate and did his walk about. He decided to walk over by Merlin and talk smack. Well Merlin hopped the fence and proceeded after Henry. He normally chases him a few yards then comes back and I put him up. Well this time I put Merlin up and Henry was no where to be found. It was getting dark and I spot lit the pasture several times.... no Henry. Hubby came out to help and heard noise over under the felled trees. I shined the light and just caught a glimpse of butt feathers sticking out under a pile off trees. Poor Henry was stuck sideways on the ground with one leg up in the air caught between two branches around his wrist, tight. He must have been there an hour....His other leg was wrapped around another and there was a good bit of blood. Hubby thought he broke his leg... But on closer, calmer inspection his back of his legs were badly skinned up and he had some deep lacerations on his body. We pryed the thick branches apart to free his leg, which took alot of effort, then I pushed him upright and freed the other. I scooted him out from under the pile and helped him to his feet. I was so relieved when he stood up on his own an walked a couple painful steps. I slowly walked him down the fence line while hubby shined the headlights of the golfcart so Henry could see. Got him to a pen and doctored him up with blue kote. He happily ate some dog food, and slowly sat down. He was a little better this morning and got up on his own to eat and drink. He's in a safe spot, where Merlin can't get to him again..... So glad he's ok, as he's such a sweet heart to people.
