Hello my name is Amanda. I am a chicken newbie and I came across this site while trying to find out information on how to best care for my new chickens. I have just assembled my very own flock of hens, I currently have 7 (I think they are all hens lol). I have one Olive egger named olive, two cream legbars named Frida and Dianne, one Ayam Cemani named Omen, two bantams named Lilith and cookie, and a random rescue hen named nugget. I hope to learn a lot from those more experienced and that my chickens live a long happy life.

Welcome to BYC!
Nice variety flock you have.
Thank you! o originally started with the two cream leg bars and the olive egger because I wanted fresh eggs. Then I wanted to add more color so I got the two bantams lol. the wild hen needed a good home so we took her in. The cemani is the newest, that was my dream chicken and I was lucky enough to find someone here who has them. I think the cemani may be a rooster though...

They look wonderful, but the pic of the dog makes me nervous (having lost a chicken to my own dog)! Best of luck, people here are so helpful! Aloha nui loa!

I was afraid of how she would accept them since she eats chicken but she is very obedient and accepts anything I personally introduce to her. now she thinks they are part of the family. they hop on her and she just lays there. lol. what kind of chickens do you have?

I have 3 barred rocks, 1 salmon faverolle, and 4 blue ameracaunas. I had 2 other faverolles, but Sadie got one, my most friendly hen of course, and the other faverolle ingested some unknown toxin and didn't make it. Is it easy to get a good variety of chickens on the island? I've spent alot of time there, and learned sometimes you have to make do with what's available.
