Hawaii is amazing. I am on the big island and live in the rainforest puna district. I started out with about 60 Rhode island reds and several peacocks when I moved here but after going years without poultry I decided to give quail a go for meat and eggs. We also keep bees and make lots of mead. I work in the papaya industry. We pack and ship out a huge number of premium hawaiian papaya every month to our mainland distributor, an oahu distributor and one in Canada . Good jobs are hard to find in hawaii. I went from the biopharmaceutical field to agriculture when I moved here. Mainly because it was what was available. I make a lot less here than I did back on the mainland but I'm happier than i ever was making 4-5 times more.
