A big warm welcome to all. I decided to become a member tonight after reading post after post of valuable information. I was raised on a Southern Wisconsin chicken farm where every early childhood memory was spent surrounded by hens. In my sandbox, in the garden, under my swing set, and especially the dear ol' hen that raised a clutch of duck eggs after the Mother duck got hit by a vehicle. The dear hen sat patiently near the edge of my plastic kiddie pool so "her ducklings" could swim. I will never forget the mother hen looking this way and that trying to figure out why these babies needed to swim. The birds were happy and quite loved on our farm. I found your site last year when I was taking care of a property in Hawaii, and a neighbor dog broke loose and injured a hen. Your forum saved the day. Having no nearby vet who knew chickens, I turned to you and used every bit of information I could find. I am happy to report that the information saved dear Checkers and she and the rest of the girls remain under my care. We too have a group of "wild" roosters and hens that have found a home here as well. I farm and garden, so I am happy to read of what you grow to feed your chickens. Well, that should do it for an intro. Thank you once again for helping by posting all that you knew. Your help means the world to me.
