Aloha from Manoa's Roost

Well, I'm still getting set up for chickens in Payson. I'm getting my stuff to build my coop in this next week or so and I'm setting up an enclosed run as we have lots of predators - owls, hawks, possums, racoons, bob cats, coyotes, foxes... and they all like chicken dinner. I ordered American Bresse chicks, and I have a couple of Silky chicks and an Easter Egger. I can have up to 10 chickens, and am not supposed to have any roosters, although I hope to get away with keeping one.

The Rooster's of this breed are supposed to average 10-pound's, the hen's will lay egg's making this breed a dual-purpose breed.

It look's like we will be having a few day's without any rain, so I will be releasing those Aloha chick's from the grow-out pen with the flock to see how thing's go. Once they settle in, I will take pictures. I will only be keeping the pullet's and one of the cockerel's, so the other boy's will have to go.

I decided to take a few picture's of them today before turning them loose. They move so fast, and I wanted to get a few picture's of the group before the older one's could start the pecking order thing on them. I already gave away one of the cockerel's to someone that wanted one for a flock, so now there are only 9 in the group left.

Oh there they are again. The stunning, glorious, beautiful chickens.

Thanks for the link from another thread. I got here and will be following although I have not read much of this thread yet. Just jumped on the end.

@Newyorkrita Nice that you came to see them again! I bought one of those cheap loaves of bread from Walmart and just came back in from feeding a few slices to the flock. Even those Aloha one's love that bread. I was sitting on my bucket out there breaking up the few slices of bread for them and one of the Aloha's jumped up and grabbed a larger piece that I not broken up small enough yet and ran off with it with the Silver Grey Dorking's hot on his trail trying to get it away from him. Those Dorking's are so funny when they run with those 5 toes that they have, and they make a funny sounding chicken talk.

Yesterday afternoon I seen the rooster breed with the red/buff naked neck pullet, so she must be going to start laying egg's shortly. I hope that it won't take long for her egg's to gain a good size for the hatching, because she's the one that I want to cross with Manoa to start up the naked neck version of the Aloha's. Hopefully, I will be able to get a couple more of the naked necks like her coloring soon.
