I read an article about a playground in Copenhagen. They keep different animals for the kids to learn about and take care of. They had a problem with their sheep getting mauled and often killed by loose dogs, but after they added alpacas to the flock, that problem has disappeared.

Alpacas are supposedly very aggressive towards predators. Does anyone in here have experience with alpacas? I don't think I've ever even seen one.

I've seen a couple, at petting zoos and what not....there's also a couple that is featured on our local news quite often for the work they do with their therapy farm of alpacas. I can't say about the aggression towards predators, but they seem to be easily tamed for human interactions.

They are a variation of llamas. They do not like unwelcome visitors, particularly of the canine family and will spit, chase, kick, etc. They are similar to donkeys for livestock protection.

I know I've heard donkeys! :)

I can't keep alpacas where I live now, but the dream is a bigger place someday with loads of geese. I've always pictured having to fence off the whole property Fort Knox-style to keep predators out, but adding alpacas to the flock instead would be so much nicer.

Also, I love taking my geese for walks, but it is a nightmare having to watch out for dogs all the time. It seems people's tendency to let their dog off the leash is inversely proportional to their ability to get the dog to come when called. How cool would it be to have an alpaca or two to take care of that problem!
