So a week ago I introduced 5 7 week old chicks to my group of girls. The alpha hen was fine with them so everyone else was to. But yesterday my alpha hen suddenly passed away, so now the 2 girls vying to be leader are relentlessly chasing the chicks to the point where I might have to put them back in the brooder. But they are to big for it now. What do I do? None of my hens are laying yet the older group is around 5 months old.

I would make a separation pen for the young ones for a bit inside the coop.

x2. And, completely normal. Smaller birds get picked on by bigger birds, thats just the way they work. Make them a separate partition in the coop with wire and access doors only they can get through. Places to hide out or to get up and away in the run aren't a bad idea either (just make sure there aren't places they'll get cornered/trapped).
