Had 9 females and a roo, all bielefelders. They’re to the age where they really want to hop out of their brooder.

I didn’t latch the coop door and the dogs pushed their way in. My malamute grabbed one of the girls. Sad, but it was over fast. Husky tried to get in on the action too but I shoo’d him off.

That’s all on me, dogs were just being dogs. Enough going in life right now that I wonder if I should get the chicks to a new place to be raised.

Both of your dogs are breeds that are known for a high prey drive. I agree you can't blame the dogs. You can try to teach them to let them be, but best to make sure they are always secure, and the dogs aren't in the same area. Many of my dogs would chomp on fresh chicks. It's too tempting.

I didn't fully understand the prey drive of a Husky until I let mine out to potty and he took off for hours .Other than he refused to eat he acted normal. The next day he did the same thing but didn't stay gone long.He still refused to eat his food. The 3rd day I sneaked out the backdoor when my husband let him out the front and I followed him.
I caught him eating what was left of a big white turkey that had been hanging out around the mines before disappearing

My Husky killed a turkey and hid it close to the house .He actually stopped several times to see if anyone was watching him before he approached the turkey to eat it.He didn't know I went out the backdoor .He was watching the front of the house. He was 6 months old.
