Alternative Brooder Bedding Ideas?

At our local feed store, they use a very large cracked corn, nothing the chicks would eat cuz it's too large, but it looked pretty tidy to me

When I worked at the zoo in their avian propagation center they used a fabric substrate. I think it's an indoor/outdoor type fabric that you see some people using on their porches. We'd just put a new one in every day, take the old one out and once a week scrub them with a long handled brush, rinse and hang to dry. I think I'll see if the Home Depot carries it. It had enough grip so there was no splaying. I'm getting ready for my chicks so I need to put a brooder box together too, your question reminded me of this.

We have 32 week-old peepers in a crate in the kitchen. DUSTY! Wow! I guess I forgot how messy those little angels are. Like the wood pellet idea. May have to run out today and get some....

Ooh. Can I get some more info on this? It sounds much better than pine/pellet beddings!

Kind of sounds like astroturf, we used that with a snake I had as a kid, it was pretty easy to clean.

I think she meant she has 32 one-week-old chicks.

I do mean 32 - 1 week old peeps. Way too many I know but, they are so cute and it sounds like spring when they are chirping happily.

Shredded paper!

Also for fun I take Paper Towel rolls once I have used all the paper and put it in the brooders they love running through them chasing each other and wonder where everyone went..LOL So much fun to watch!
