Alternative Feed for Ducks

Mine like the tote they sleep in. So even when I let them out to free range they always go back into their pen and put themselves to bed. I would think if yours resist, keeping the only water source inside their pen would keep them from straying too far. Keeping their feed inside their house or pen will help until they're used to going to bed every night. I just had to "herd" my boys into their tote for the first few nights and then they did it by themselves after that.

Mine get put up about 15 mins before dark (roughly 8:00-8:15 here) and usually when they see me walk outside they start walking into their night pen. They've been trained since their first day out (2-3 weeks old babies) to go back into a stall at night.

I also find when free ranging, keeping their main drinking source in their pen gives them the routine of walking back to the pen everty so often for a drink. When you want to put them in at night get a routine of putting a small portion of food out so for a little while so they re used to coming in at a certain time and sleeping where they are. Mine will be out all day and once its getting dark i walk out and they are all in the pen.
